This coming summer more than 40 area youths, along with their adult leaders, will participate in Youth Mission 2008, sponsored by St. Isidore Youth.  In groups of 9 – 21 persons, we will travel to the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota, and to the inner cities of Denver, St. Louis, and San Francisco.  We are taking time from our school vacation.  Most of us are giving up the money we could be making from a week of work.  Some may have to leave our sports teams for this trip.  We are willing to do this so that we can help children and families whose needs are greater than our own.

For us, July 20 – 26, 2008, will be a week totally dedicated to serving the poor, in a context of prayer and reflection on the fact that we are personally serving Jesus in His sometimes distressing disguise.  It will be a week of fellowship with teens from around the country, in which we will grow in personal witness to our Faith in Jesus who came among us to serve and to save everyone, even those at the margins of society.  We will gain a new understanding of poverty from a Christian perspective, beginning with our personal contact with the poor.  We hope to become servant leaders, who can return with a commitment to serve our parish and community.
